Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is Skinny Love
by Bon Iver from the 2008 album For Emma, Forever Ago on Jagjaguwar.
Even though this album was self released mid ’07 and pillaged for months thereafter, Bon Iver‘s For Emma, Forever Ago is still on people’s minds like it hit the internet yesterday. Following the album’s recent rerelease on Jagjaguwar and the band’s myriad of performances at SXSW, little is likely to change. Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon endears just as well from a stage as from a cabin in Northern Wisconsin(the site of the album’s creation). While his vocals may remind you of TV on the Radio, Vernon’s falsetto and sonic template are completely his own. He has the rare ability to mesmerize individuals and large crowds alike, as well as bring them to tears. If you haven’t already done so, read our coverage of his SXSW performance for KEXP, and those of you in Seattle -- visit this man at Nectar 3/26. Here is Bon Iver performing Skinny Love
from Austin’s Maggie Mae’s:

Just saw them last night. So amazing. They played this in the middle of the room with no amplification (it was a small venue)
