Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is Great DJ
, available as a single in the U.S. by The Ting Tings on Columbia.
When you’re in the mood for an infectious, guilty pleasure electro-pop song, The Ting Tings’ Great DJ
will hit the spot. This Manchester-based duo featuring ex-Dear Eskimo veterans Katie White (vox, guitar) and Jules De Martino (vox, drums) bring driving, yet happy, beats (think Blondie meets The Go! Team) that will surely induce some car dancing. The Ting Tings hooked up at Manchester’s Islington Mill, a former cotton mill-turned-cultural haven, where tickets for their shows were on the most wanted list. TTT have been receiving a lot of press since their single hit the UK, and several industry folks include them on their list of up-and-coming artists in 2008 including BBC Music, NME and even Seattle’s own Three Imaginary Girls. This single will be on their forthcoming album, We Started Nothing, available in the UK in May. You may have seen this already, but here’s the official video for Great DJ
