As DJ El Toro reminded you yesterday, this coming Saturday, April 19, is Record Store Day, when record stores around the country “will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally.” What better way to prepare for Record Store Day than start picking up some new releases now?
True, this week is a bit lighter than last week, but only just a bit. There are still plenty of worthwhile releases to choose from. Just check out Largehearted Boy’s list, which contains a fulfilling selection indie favorites like Joseph Arthur, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Phantom Planet, Black Francis, The Kooks, Frightened Rabbit, M83, and too many others to name. If you missed them the first time, or if you’re a collector, you can also find sweet reissues of Whiskeytown’s Stranger’s Amanac, Air’s Moon Safari, or Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark’s Dazzle Ships, all with bonus material. Also for fans, former Drive-By Trucker and now solo artist Jason Isbell has released a live EP, and The Gossip have a DVD/CD set covering their performance last year in Liverpool (on Columbia, but their regular label, Kill Rock Stars, will release the vinyl version on May 6). So, warm up your wallets, but not before sampling these fine tracks:

from Crazy Rain EP on Lonely Astronaut
The Autumns - Killer In Drag (MP3)

The Alina Simone album has been delayed indefinitely, which is a shame, it’s my favorite album of the year so far.
man i love m83! i saw them at their first north american show after dead cities.. so good!
Bummer about Alina Simone. Well, I’ll leave it up in anticipation.
For those of you interested in her work, David’s blog Largehearted Boy has posted many excellent stories about her over the past several years, including this interview conducted by my favorite funnyman Eugene Mirman and Alina Simone.
