Every Friday, we deliver a different song from a Northwest performer as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole, is
My Alarm by New Faces from the 2008 self-titled, self-released EP.
When thinking back to being 16- and 17-years old, many things come to mind. However, nowhere in the vicinity of those memories are there any burgeoning punk rock classmates. This young Port Townsend trio is fresh off of winning Seattle’s Sound Off! competition, a 21-and-under battle of the bands. If you think the judges were biased in some way, think again — New Faces also took home the Audience Response Prize. It appears there’s a market out there for Brit-punk guitar licks, non-stop toe-tapping hooks and a dynamic stage presence. 2008 should be an interesting year for NF as they stretch themselves thin playing to new and greater audiences. They have a bunch of shows spanning most of Western Washington in the coming weeks, all in support of their debut LP, to be released in late May. Visit the band’s MySpace page for full tour details and even a few movie reviews from pre-journalism major Nico Janssen (guitar/vocals).
