Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Every Friday, the Song of the Day podcast spotlights local musicians. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is The Future is Obsolete by Voyager One from their fourth album Afterhours in the After Life on Loveless Records.
From the land of the Space Needle, monorails and space travel supply companies, Seattle’s Voyager One simultaneously fits in and stands out from the crowd with its unique brand of spacey melodic noise. When you close your eyes and listen to this album, you are instantly transported to another time and place. This track hails from the band’s fourth album which features collaborations from German musician/producer Guitar among others.
Voyager One will be live on KEXP at 12pm today and is slated to record a Cure cover for “Perfect As Cats” a tribute album that benefits Invisible Children.
Voyager One’s live show is something that shouldn’t be missed. Projectorhead, a live visualist, offers up a combination of 16mm projections and homemade slides that accompanies their live set which creates an intense and amazing atmosphere for you to experience Voyager One’s music.
