Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Every Friday the Song of the Day podcast spotlights Northwest musicians. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Afternoon Show host Kevin Cole is All of a Sudden
by Telekinesis! from the 2008 self-released EP Toulouse-Lautrec.
Telekinesis! is the moniker for Seattle musician/producer Michael Benjamin Lerner. Recently named a band to watch by the folks at Stereogum, Telekinesis! focuses on ’70s inspired rock and pop with lots of multi-tracked vocals and super catchy melodies. The limited-edition EP Toulouse-Lautrec was recorded a couple months ago at Seattle’s Two Sticks Audio and is expected to be followed by a full length album sometime this fall. Death Cab For Cutie‘s Chris Walla has hinted he may be involved on that future full length, making the thought of waiting for it that much more difficult. Regardless, copies of the recent EP are nearing their end; the final copies will be sold at Lerner’s next gig, July 1st at El Corazon with Candle, See Me River and Other Desert Cities. By doing yourself a favor and checking out this show, you can also walk away with an EP that only 99 other people in the world have. If you haven’t heard enough to prod you along, check out the artist’s MySpace page to hear several other tracks, including the phenomenal Coast of Carolina,
also on the EP.
