  • Sonic Youth are readying the release of Andre Sider Af Sonic Youth, the eighth release from the band’s SYR label. The album captures a 2005 performance at the Roskilde Festival that featured Jim O’Rourke, Mats Gustaffson, and legendary noise phenom Merzbow.

  • Sub Pop, feeling its 20th Anniversary Festival isn’t enough of a celebration, is restarting their ever-popular Singles Club. The year-long subscription series promises a monthly release, with the Bay Area drones of Om kicking things off August 15th.
  • A mysterious countdown greets visitors to Bloc Party‘s website, fueling rumors that the band may deliver a preview of material set from their unfinished third album. The countdown’s end is set for 6 PM (EST)/3 PM (PST) today (July 7th).
  • John Oates and his mustache continue to ride the wave of renewed popularity thanks to a proposed cartoon from independent publisher, Primary Wave Music. J-Stache follows the adventures of family man Oates as he’s coaxed back into rock stardom thanks to his Dave Attell-voiced mustache. The pilot episode is still in production.
  • Consumer electronic giant Best Buy is getting back into the vinyl game, making the once-dying medium available at an undisclosed amount of stores. The warm crackle of the turntable held dear by collectors can now be discovered by a generation raised on iTunes.
