Born Anchors (6PM) got their start a little over a year ago, formed by Mckinley Parker and Justin Martinez. Gregory Scott soon jumped onboard and the trio has been hard at work releasing EPs ever since. They’ve got two to their name at this point with a third well on its way. With Johnny Sangster (Mudhoney, The Tripwires, The Cops) working the boards, Born Anchors have cultivated potent guitar riffs and vocal range that fits today’s rock scene as well as it would’ve 20 years ago. Far from gimmicky or imitative, this band is on its way to something big. I can’t wait to see what they do with their first long-player.
Past Lives (8PM) descended from last year’s breakup of The Blood Brothers. For the new project, started in January, the band even rounded up guitarist Devin Welch, who made up part of the original Blood Brothers lineup. With the use of samplers and synths, Past Lives layer serious grooves atop meaty punk tunes. Though they’ve only been together a short while, history runs deep; a debut EP should be floated in the near future. Meanwhile the band has a bunch of tour dates on the books including the highly anticipated Capitol Hill Block Party. Wherever you are on this busy weekend, tune your radio to 90.3 KEXP and Audioasis, and check back to see what we’ve got lined up for next week.
