  • Willamette Week’s Musicfest NW announced the first wave of acts for its 2008 edition. The Portland festival, set to take place September 3rd-6th, is set to feature TV on the Radio, Nada Surf, Vampire Weekend, Menomena, among others. It’s another incredible lineup and includes a now-annual reunion of The Murder City Devils!
  • Illegal Art, home to Girl Talk, has announced plans to transform all current, future, and past release into pay-what-you-want enterprises. Hoping to cut down on CD packaging expenses, the label plans to initiate the newest business model by the end of July.


  • The Secret Machines announced plans to self-release their next album through World’s Fair after fulfilling their Warner Bros. contract. In the meantime, the boys will be hitting the road to preview new material from the as-yet-titled album due in fall.
  • Guitar vixen Marnie Stern is set to release new album This Is It And I Am It And You Are It And So Is That And He Is It And She Is It And It Is It And That Is That via Kill Rock Stars October 7th. No news on whether Fiona Apple is ready to battle for title length supremacy.
  • The next giant to revitalize vinyl: Capitol Records. From the Capitol Vaults, set to unleash 8 remastered LPs August 19th, will feature four Radiohead releases (OK Computer, Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief) along with Coldplay‘s first two albums, Steve Miller Band’s Greatest Hits, and A Perfect Circle’s Mer De Noms.
  • Thurston Moore-helmed label Ecstatic Peace, along with Ecstatic Yod, are sponsoring the No More Bush tour. Thirty bands (including the likes of Thurston, Sunburned Hand of the Man, Jack Rose, Tom Carter and MV+EE) are coming together for the 8 date mini-tour to celebrate the end of President Bush’s reign.
