On the coattails of their debut release, Last Time On Earth, this Brazilian electronic team of Telepathique, Mylene Pires on vocals and DJ Periferico (Erico Theobaldo) on drums and the 1&2’s, along with a third, Mauricio, on guitar and the 1&2’s, brought their high energy dance, punk, rock, samba, electro party for their live US debut to Nectar Lounge on Wednesday, July 30th. That it was a Wednesday and they didn’t get on stage until around 11:15 didn’t stop a decent sized crowd from showing up and having a great time until they finished. Pires is the epitome of the Sao Paulo urbanite, dressed fashionably glam in black hot pants, a feminine funky blouse with fishnets, sparkle socks, and heels. The Brazilian beauty delivered a sensual performance that kept the fans captivated until the end of the show, at one time even stepping off stage to dance with the crowd. What makes this team fun live, aside from some great tracks, was the addition of drums and electric guitar to compliment and enliven the electronic back beats, which ranged from heavy drum and bass to a fast samba sampled from the City of God soundtrack. They performed tracks from their release, including the catchy “Eu Gosto”, as well as the very fun track “I’m Not the Man You Think I Am” (for which Pires wore a hat while performing) and a nice cover of “Sweet Dreams”. There were a few sound glitches during the show, but nothing that stopped the great energy with which this band manages to infect its audience.
You can catch the trio on tour in the States and Canada through August 16th.
