Thursday News Threads

  • A certain level of hell has just made room for the jerks who stole equipment from Iggy and The Stooges while they were in Montreal earlier this week. The Detroit Free Press reports that among the boosted equipment, valued at tens of thousands of dollars, was “the vintage Gibson bass that had been Mike Watt’s go-to instrument since his Minutemen days in the 1980s”.
  • Siberian, joining the ranks of Das Llamas, Ice Age Cobra, and Hopscotch Boys, has decided to “move on to other things”. The quintet from Seattle won over locals with the 2007 release With Me and years of well-received performances; the band will be sorely missed.
  • The RNC Convention will be held in the Twin Cities from September 1-4; politically charged Rage Against the Machine will be performing at Minneapolis’ Target Center on September 3.  Coincidence?  Unlikely.
  • Even more releases by the The Clash are en route, with a new live CD (featuring the band’s 1982 set opening for the Who’s farewell tour at Shea Stadium on October 13, 1982), a DVD, and an authorized biography.
