Today, throngs of highly intelligent people will descend upon South Lake Union’s Discovery Center Lawn for the 6th annual KEXP BBQ. This year’s lineup boasts top-of-the-line musicians spanning numerous genres. Gates are located at 101 Westlake Ave. N and open at 2PM. The day’s musical itinerary is as follows:
The Saturday Knights
The Helio Sequence
Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts
The Dandy Warhols
Born out of the Roadhouse Jug Band auditions held in mid-June, the Dexter Street Stompers offer a rousing start to this year’s festivities. The Saturday Knights come into the BBQ in the midst of their recent rise due to praise for their debut album, Mingle, released through Light in the Attic. Hip-Hop duo Common Market, comprised of Sabzi (also of Blue Scholars) and RA Scion, appear ahead of the release of their sophomore album, Tobacco Road, expected next month via Massline Media. Portland’s The Helio Sequence gave a very strong performance at last month’s Sub Pop festival and continue to please audiences nationwide with their awesome blend of pop and rock, most recently with their 2008 album Keep Your Eyes Ahead. Joseph Arthur was recently in our studio for a beautiful and intimate solo performance and now is back with The Lonely Astronauts to give a full-throttle presentation, likely pulling from any of the band’s five 2008 releases. The Dandy Warhols will escort the audience into the evening with a thrilling concoction of psych-rock and electronic pop. All this and I haven’t even mentioned the food — this year’s treats include:
Fieldroast Veggie Dogs
Zieglar’s Bratwurst & Curly Fries
Café Vita Iced Coffee Treats
Come on down, bring the family, and enjoy one of KEXPs biggest events of the year.
And if you arrive early, we’re giving station tours between 12-2PM!
