Not literally of course, we mean the L.A. Alt/Country-Rock band Everest. Those are a lot of musical niches to fill, but these guys have been on a whirlwind tour of the UK with Neil Young and My Morning Jacket and riding high from their recent performance on Conan O’Brien. They test their wares on the Tractor crowd tonight before heading off again with Neil Young (they’re signed to his label – Vapor Records) and dates with Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco. They’ve got a mellow acoustic sound that sounds soothingly familiar. In fact, many of the members of Everest have been in previous projects like Sebadoh, The Watson Twins, Earlimart, and John Vanderslice. It’s definitely got a hint of Tractor “twang” to it, but it also has just the right amount of retro Americana rock and roll vibe to make it work. Their new album Ghost Notes was actually recorded in Elliot Smith‘s old room with cool vintage analog equipment and it sounds fantastic. Everest is what happens when you leave a bunch of great musicians alone in the same room and let them create. This is your chance to see a great up and coming band… up close.

There’s a band from florida that caught my ear. They are called Win Win Winter. I think they are on to something. They are more authentic and less cliche than the more popular southern rock bands I’ve listened to and read about lately. They have a really refreshing sound. What do you think? Check out the track called Exit Rows.
