Bumbershoot Music Lounge, Day 3: Two Gallants

photos by Chad Syme

Childhood friends Adam Stephens (guitar, vocals) and Tyson Vogel (drums, vocals) built Two Gallants from the ground up, playing basements and house parties shortly after finishing high school. From the beginning, they’ve built their reputation on their live show, traveling exhaustively to reach as many people as possible. Their lo-fi approach to punk and especially retro folk and blues transfers incredibly well to the stage, often inciting a heavy dose of audience participation and feedback. Corresponding with their down and dirty workingman’s blues are themes of violence, the Old West and heartbreak. Stephens’ vocal range allows him to be endearing one moment and increasingly aggressive the next, using his sometimes scratchy delivery to great effect. Being a duo with their particular sound, Two Gallants have the ability to create a very intimate, personable mood, but at the drop of a hat they’ll have you reaching for your earplugs and hyper extending your knee in an attempt to stomp along.
