Monday News Mash-Up

  • Trent Reznor continues to prove just how cool he is as a person, even if his music can’t keep up. The Nine Inch Nails puppeteer is bringing along Boris, HEALTH, and The Bug along for the ride on the band’s upcoming tour. Perhaps a re-enactment of the “Closer” video is in order.
  • During Oasis‘ set at Toronto’s Virgin Music festival this weekend, Noel Gallagher was shoved pretty hard by an audience member while he was performing a song. The assaulter was carried off by security before brother Liam had a chance to throw a punch. Lucky for him, too, as those two have had enough practice fighting each other that their combined ire would be devastating. The band resumed the show soon after.

  • 15 years of publishing is a landmark few ‘zines reach in this modern age of blogs and technobabbble, so Chunklet Magazine’s all-star gala celebrating the moment seems more appropriate than ever. The two night event is anchored by October 10th performances from Deerhunter and Brent Weinbach. October 11th will feature the doom and gloom of Mastadon and Brian Posehn.

  • Here is the story of Johnny Rotten… and the rest of the Sex Pistols. Live DVD There’ll Always Be an England, captures the reunited Sex Pistols’ run of shows at London’s Brixton Academy last November. Rhino will release the package October 14th, coinciding with the label’s vinyl re-issue of the band’s debut, Never Mind the Bullocks.
  • Eddie Argos, enigmatic leader of Art Brut, is entering the world of comic book columnists. “Pow! To The People” finds publication via St. Louis-based website Playback:stl. How he fits in his geeky obsession in between sessions for Art Brut’s third album as well as side projects Everybody Was in the French Resistance… Now and Glam Chops is anyone’s guess, but perhaps Argos’ comic hobby is just covering his own superpower?
  • World conquers Coldplay are set to release Prospects March, come Christmastime. The EP will feature Viva La Vida leftovers — most notably Kylie Minogue collaboration “Luna.”
