  • The Beastie Boys want you to “Get Out and Vote”! The NYC legends’ Swing State Tour begins in Richmond, Virginia, before heading to St. Paul, Minnesota, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Additional dates are forthcoming once the boys decide where they want to take fellow stumpers Norah Jones, Jack Johnson, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Ben Harper and Tenacious D. The vote is officially rocked.
  • The second greatest collaboration between Bjork and Thom Yorke is on its way (nothing will ever top Space Ghost Coast to Coast). The simpatico duo have recorded the single “Nattura” due October 20th, aimed at bringing awareness to Nattura, an organization charged with helping the Icelandic environmental movement reclaim the nation’s resources from corporations.
  • Neutral Milk Hotel recluse Jeff Mangum made a rare live appearance during Saturday’s Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour stop in NYC. Mangum tackled two Olivia Tremor Control songs (“The Opera House” and “I Have Been Floated”) and the Elf Power track “The Arrow Flies Close,” which you can watch below:

  • Music-know-it-all Brian Eno has devised a new application for the all-powerful entity know as iPhone. Bloom, the product of Eno and Spore contributor Peter Chilvers, aims to turn the iPhone into an ambient musical instrument.
  • Be prepared to visit the Merriweather Post Pavilion with Animal Collective come January 20th. The band’s ninth album looks to throw out everything you learned from 2007’s Strawberry Jam just to mess with you.
  • Speaking of Animal Collective, the band’s Paw Tracks imprint has announced the signing of Dent May after they discovered May (and his Magnificent Ukulele) while recording their new album in May’s home state of Mississippi. The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele is set to drop February 3rd.
  • Finally, local songwriter Joshua Morrison talks about his music and being in the military in this short video from The Current, shot during and around his performance for KEXP at the Bumbershoot Music Lounge:
