Out This Week 10/14

Although many of us are already looking forward to 2009, the current year still has a few musical gifts to give. Expected in these autumn months are highly anticipated albums from Ryan Adams, The Cure, Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, Guns and Roses, Doves, Kanye West, and U2, among others. While Largehearted Boy’s list of new releases this week doesn’t contain any major chart burners, there still some solid releases worth the dwindling value of your dollars. KEXP listeners will want to pick up the latest from Lucinda Williams, Keane, Ray LaMontagne, and Secret Machines. Also, The Decemberists are kicking off their Always the Bridesmaid singles series, which will run monthly until the end of the year. Morning Show fans should pick up The Courteeners’ proper U.S. release and the new EP by Kinetic Stereokids, which features a version of “Explosions Were Heard” recorded live at KEXP! Other worthwhile albums that may not be on your radar just yet come from artists you’re just starting to hear, like Nick Jaina, Wax Fang, Tobacco, and Reefer, which features Nick Thornburn of Islands. Hmm... if Tobacco and Reefer don’t get you motivated, I don’t know what will. Get out there and pick some up!
