Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Morning Show host John Richards chose today’s Song of the Day Podcast in anticipation of KEXP’s live broadcast during CMJ. Check out “4 to the Floor” by Bang! Bang! Eche! available on their self-released, self-titled debut EP.
Bang! Bang! Eche! is a five piece based out of Christchurch, New Zealand. Their synth-heavy, attention-grabbing dance punk is reminiscent of !!! and like our favorite “!” mark users they are also known for their rowdy live shows and exhaustive touring schedule. BBE have been garnering quite a bit of attention on the other side of the world and their song “4 To The Floor” is one of the hottest songs in New Zealand right now thanks to heavy rotation on bNet (New Zealand’s network of college radio stations). While they seem to take the piss out of most journalists in regards to their name (e.g. Esche is Maori for “awesome party times”) and their music (all the lyrics on the EP deal with the fun party atmosphere they believe will be present on December 21, 2012, otherwise known as THE END OF THE WORLD according to the Mayans), it all seems to be in good fun. What seems to be fact, however, is that these Kiwis sure know how to have a good time. They make their American debut during CMJ, preceding a mini East Coast before heading across the pond to Europe. Check out their MySpace page for a complete list of dates.
You can hear Bang! Bang! Esche! live on KEXP during our CMJ broadcast on Wednesday October 22nd at 1PM (PST).
