Yes, it may be confusing that a trio of dance-happy, Brighton-based Brits have dubbed themselves Fujiya & Miyagi (the name is a combination of a Mr. Miyagi, of Karate Kid fame and the famed record player brand). What’s not confusing? The sheer danceability of Fujiya & Miyagi’s Krautrock inspired brand of electro-funk. Though the band drifted in and out of obscurity in their early years, they exploded in to the relative mainstream with their 2006 album Transparent Things. Hinting at 70s bands like Can and Neu!, they became instant favorites with tastemakers like Pitchfork Media. Their second album, Lightbulbs, featuring the addition of Lee Adams on drums, the album continues in a similar vein, exploring the many facets of energetic, fun-first dance music. The foursome is currently touring the United States before jumping across the pond for a two month tour of Europe.
