First off -- yes, you can buy the new Animal Collective today... but only in deluxe vinyl form. Appealing as that may be, most of you will have to wait until January 20, when Merriweather Post Pavilion is released on CD and digitally in the U.S., but in the meantime the band’s label has scheduled listening parties all around the country.
As for the official releases this week, Largehearted Boy’s list contains only a few choice selections, but they are good ones! Glasvegas finally offers their excellent self-titled album to those of us here in the States. (Be sure to listen to KEXP this Saturday at 3PM for an exclusive in-studio session with Glasvegas!)
Also of note are two releases from Yep Roc -- the latest album by The Gourds and a re-issue of the underappreciated debut from Chatham County Line -- and a collection of killer team-ups by The Brighton Port Authority aka The BPA aka Norman Cook aka Fatboy Slim. While you’re out there, don’t forget to pick up the latest in the DJ Kicks series, this time from Burial, along with a few others:
from I Think We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat on Southern Fried Records
Deleted Scenes - Turn to Sand (MP3)
from Birdseed Shirt on What Delicate Recordings
Glasvegas - Daddy’s Gone
from Glasvegas on Sony
The Gourds - Fossil Contender (MP3)
from Haymaker! on Yep Roc
Toubab Krewe - Buncombe to Badala
from Live at the Orange Peel on Upstream Records
