Fruit Bats fans can rejoice with the news that, after a four-year wait, Eric Johnson is finally going back into the studio to record a new album. Most recently, Johnson joined fellow Sub Pop recording popsters The Shins, but even with his busy touring schedule, he was able to re-focus and work out an album’s worth of songs. KEXP listeners got a sneak peak at the new material as Fruit Bats took to the Berkeley studio of Opus Music Ventures during KEXP’s broadcast from the Bay Area. Three of the songs from the session were new, so if you missed them, go back and listen on our 14-day Streaming Archive. Currently, the band is heading up toward the Northwest with a show in Seattle this Friday at the Vera Project with Sera Cahoone. Then, they hit the studio (in Chicago) and record what will surely be yet another pop masterpiece.
