Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is “Burial” (DJ Mehdi Remix) by Miike Snow from the 2009 album Animal on Downtown Music.
The men of Miike Snow like to remain behind the curtain, using the image of a jackalope on their MySpace page and revealing little else besides a deep sense of pop knowledge and nostalgia. However, after posting a glitchy, 8-bit remix of Vampire Weekend‘s Kid’s Don’t Stand a Chance,
the trio’s chances at secrecy are equally slim. Grab that track and a few other choice cuts over at RCRD LBL. If you haven’t yet jumped sites to find out for yourself, the group consists of Swedish producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, aka Bloodshy & Avant, as well as American multi-instrumentalist and producer Andrew Wyatt. Karlsson and Winnberg have made a name for themselves working with the biggest names in the business, namely Britney Spears and Madonna while Wyatt mans the boards on a regular basis at Downtown Records. All that combined production work has resulted in some of the most infectious tracks to hit the web of late, and at this point there’s no reason to believe their upcoming debut won’t deliver more of the same. Stay tuned.
