Review Revue: The dB’s – The Sound of Music

the dbs

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like The dB’s are one of those bands that way more people have heard of, than have actually heard. (For instance, I think I first heard of them – and Young Fresh Fellows, for that matter — via the They Might Be Giants Song “Twisting.”) Which is not to say that there aren’t tons of dB’s fans out there; there certainly are. I think there are just way more, like me, who think “The dB’s? Yeah, I’ve always meant to check them out…” and kinda leave it at that.

This week’s Review Revue is, admittedly, thin on content, but I had to post it, because a) I love the cover image on this album; b) I like how half the comments are just DJ’s talking smack about each other; and c) it’s the only image I have with me right now.

So enjoy this short but sweet entry, and use it as an excuse to do like I’m doing right now, and listen to some dB’s! Which is made all the easier by the fact that, according to dB Peter Holsapple’s blog, you can now get this album plus two others on itunes! (You can also read Peter’s writing over at the NY Times’ Measure for Measure blog.)

“Look, it’s Marsh!!! On a dB’s record.”

“Upbeat pop… yep, that’s what it is. No pain, just party bop around kinda stuff.”

“The CD has two extra tracks.”

“MAAAAAAARSH. You’re askin’… for that fat lip.”

“Look, it’s Creed’s grandma on a dB’s record.”
