Reading U.K.-based band Pete and the Pirates are another infectious British 5-piece set to crash this year’s SXSW. Playing an endearing mix of pop/punk with incredibly catchy guitars and lyrics, they represent yet another unique example of their art form. Their raw approach stands out amongst a sea of other British bands who are all about “dance, dance, dance” and “hype, hype, hype” right now. Not that there’s anything wrong with good old-fashioned guilty pleasures dance-pop; Pete and the Pirates offer an unpretentious listen for those wanting to hear something different. Not to worry, the music still has plenty of jangle and pop.
The band has already had a busy 2009, and their album, Little Death, has been selected as one of Rough Trade’s top 50 of the year. The band is playing all week, and you can read more about them and where they’ll be on their website and MySpace page.
