KEXP Live in Austin during SXSW, Day 1: The Features

photos by Jim Bennett

Who would think that Nashville Rock music would translate so well in the U.K.? The Features are a Tennessee band who’ve had some great success with British listeners, yet still seem to be working on American audiences. One of those great Rock bands you may have never heard of, their fantastic new album “Some Kind of Salvation” ought to help with that that problem; especially touring in support of fellow¬†catchy rock-hook legends — Kings of Leon. Big anthem Rock Music, it’s evident they may have even picked up a few pointers from their tour mates. Sometimes imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but there are definitely other influences here too. Most of the members grew up in the small town of Sparta and have played music together since at least 1994. The band has underwent numerous line-up changes and their sound has evolved over the years as well. There’s nothing small town about their current sound, The Features are closer to rock stardom than you may think.

The Features perform all week at SXSW and you can read more about the band and download a free track from their new album on their website and listen to more samples of music on their MySpace page.
