Thursday News Threads

  • If you haven’t heard, KEXP is broadcasting live in Austin during the 2009 South by Southwest Music Festival. We’re at ME Television studios with ten more live bands today and tomorrow, including Elliott Brood, First Communion Afterparty, Andrew Bird, Gomez, M. Ward, PJ Harvey and John Parish, all of which you can hear on 90.3 FM, www.kexp.org, and even watch on our live video stream. Be sure to tune in!

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to wish John Richards a happy birthday!

  • While tanking CD sales are nothing new, the rate at which they’re tanking never ceases to amaze me. Last year alone, 17 million people joined the ranks of people who get their music via other formats. Glorious Noise has all the juicy stats.
  • The latest look into John Lennon‘s life comes in the form of a new movie titled Nowhere Boy and focuses on, you guessed it, his childhood. The Weinstein Co. has just acquired the rights to the film, which is being written by Matt Greenhalgh (Control) and directed by Sam Taylor-Wood.
  • Bob Dylan is causing quite the stink these days, and this time it’s not music related. Some of his neighbors in Malibu are complaining of a smell emanating from an outdoor toilet on his property -- Blowing in the Wind, indeed. Oh yeah, and his new album, Together Through Life, comes out 4/28.
