Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is River May Come
by Wild Yaks from the 2009 self-released album Ten Ships.
It appears that not much has changed for Brooklyn’s Wild Yaks since they performed a set for KEXP at SXSW. The blues/punk band put on a wicked performance that they’ll be replicating across New York in the coming weeks. However, they’re still without a record deal, which could delay the release of an anticipated debut full length. Either way, the band remains high on our radar of acts to watch for. One listen to live track, Pondering Philosopher,
currently on their MySpace page, should convince you to do the same. Using minimal elements and a ton of energy, the band’s aggressive approach will undoubtedly spread virally across the airwaves and blogosphere soon. For those that missed it, check out our coverage of Wild Yaks at SXSW, including an interview with John Richards, viewable here:
