Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is “Collide” by eLKs off their self-titled, self-released EP.
Sometimes you need a rock song that just makes you feel good. Today’s power pop-infused Song of the Day “Collide” by Seattle band eLKs does just that. Very soon after hitting play, you find yourself battling over whether to play air drums or air guitar and you find yourself doing some weird combination of both. Not much is out there about this project, but I did find an interesting tidbit on their MySpace page. Apparently, singer/guitarist and Irish export Shane Leinster is no stranger to wooing crowds and crafting tight pop songs. He spent a good part of the mid ’90’s touring Ireland with his band Peach which at the height of their career appeared on a comp with other such distinctive Irish artists as U2 (around the time they started becoming larger than life-Zoo TV-need I say more?) and Hothouse Flowers. Luckily this project appears to be a little less mainstream-oriented. eLKs just played a show at the Skylark in West Seattle and don’t have any more dates posted but in the meantime, keep and eye out for them and hit play on this song again.
