Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Midday Show host Cheryl Waters, is “911″ by Man Plus from their forthcoming album tentatively called Ugly.
Local band Man Plus was kind enough to share the first single from their forthcoming release tentatively titled Ugly as today’s Song of the Day podcast. The band has been keeping busy with a steady stream of gigs about town while they work on new material for their follow-up to last year’s well-received release The Hungarian Suicide Songbook (they also put out a digital album of album remixes that can be downloaded for free here). Today’s song, “911,” continues their signature style of smart, infectious power pop tinged with a little more angst than usual, but still feature the sweet boy/girl harmonies provided by lead singer Jared Mills and his sister Ellen (the plus in this man-laden sextet). Man Plus are perhaps best known for putting on one helluva show with Jared rarely staying still and often climbing about the stage and into the enthusiastic crowd. Keep an eye on Man Plus’ MySpace page for more details about their upcoming album.
We here at KEXP are excited about seeing them at The Sunset next month for the KEXP’s Audioasis benefit on June 6th along with Team Gina, Wow & Flutter, Katherine Hepburn’s Voice, and Hoquiam.
