Thanks to everyone who donated to KEXP during our Summer Pledge Drive! All of us who work on Audioasis thank you, and you can still become a KEXP member here. Now, back to the music!
This week we’re broadcasting from The Sunset Tavern in Ballard with Hannah Levin and special co-host DJ Marco Collins, bringing you live sets from Wow & Flutter and Katharine Hepburn’s Voice. Each month for the Audioasis live broadcast, one local charity is chosen as the event’s beneficiary. This month, that charity is Pride Foundation. Pride Foundation connects and strengthens Northwest nonprofits, leaders, and students united in creating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. Every year Pride Foundation supports hundreds of nonprofits and students and since 1985, has invested millions of dollars throughout Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
Wow & Flutter‘s (6:30PM) new album Golden Touch is an absorbing, wide-ranging record that swings stylistically from arty post-punk to classic American rock anthems and back to spaghetti-Western dirges with an impressive amount of graceful cohesiveness. It’s adventurous and smart, and has sleeper hit written all over it.
Katharine Hepburn’s Voice (8PM) are a band that plays quirky and infectious pop songs that are ambitious and lackadaisical all at once. The stripped-down trio is comprised of Shannon Perry (keyboards/vocals), D.W. Burnam (drums/vocals) and Eli Chukovich (bass). The group just self-released Stand Up!, an eclectic mix of lo-fi pop that is at times goofy and others somber and serious.
This Audioasis-approved night of music madness will continue after our live broadcast, with Hoquiam (Damien Jurado’s new project with brother Drake), Team Gina (two fierce femmes, hip-pop at its finest), and Man Plus (synth-heavy punk-pop). More info here.
