Three Imaginary Girls recommends food on a stick, the Blackest of the black and tributes to “MOM”

I’ve been meaning to catch Joule’s Sunday BBQ event series, which kicked off with “Korean Street Food” on May 31st. This Sunday the delectably-themed “Food on a Stick” promises tasty goodies and perhaps some unlikely surprises. Joule, the quasi-fusion Korean restaurant, is a stellar date night option and would be an especially pleasant Sunday afternoon culinary destination. Bring the fam!

Like him or not (and I hope you do!) Frank Black, Black Francis (technically Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV) or whatever he’s going by these days has been a force in the independent music world for decades. Often grating, yet delightfully abstract, the surf-rock of the Pixies found its way into the hearts of many admirers and devoted fans. Frank will be playing a rare solo show at the Triple Door on Sunday. I wouldn’t miss this nugget of greatness, especially at the superior Triple Door venue.

The nationally renowned tattoo studio Super Genius Tattoo, on our very own Capitol Hill, is hosting the always painful Seattle Tattoo Expo at the Seattle Center this weekend, August 7th through 9th. A one day ticket is only $15 and gets you in to see some of the best artists around, as well as a chance to see the cavalcade of bands set to play the three day event. Peruse the goods, catch the bands, pay tribute to Mom or just ogle the inked masses.

Topping off a tasty week in Seattle, you won’t have to drop a “dyme” for the FREE Seattle Center Mural Amphitheatre Dyme Def and Fresh Espresso concert on Friday August 7th. It’s all ages, so bring the kiddos and Grandma and drop it like it’s hot! The new Dyme Def and Fresh Espresso tracks have been all over KEXP and have proved to be a great antidote to my hot summer blahs.
