Friday kicked off the first of the summer series Concerts at the Mural, presented by KEXP and Seattle Center, and the lawn was packed for Throw Me The Statue and Blitzen Trapper. In fact, over 1,600 people turned out for this free event -- families and fans, picnickers and passersby --to sit in the shade, stand in the beer garden, dance in front of the stage, and just have a good time. The response was so good in fact, that one woman stopped to comment to one of our staff and said, “You redeemed my faith in music.”
This weekend we continue the series with two concerts! Friday features local hip-hop from Dyme Def and Fresh Espresso, and Saturday is the KEXP BBQ with a full-day lineup of Champagne Champagne, Born Anchors, Japandroids, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Viva Voce, and Dinosaur Jr.! Both events are FREE! For more information about the Concerts at the Mural series, go to kexp.org.

What a beautiful mural. Let’s have a concert in front of it. Quick, cover up that mural with a giant KEXP banner. Ahhhh, that’s much better.
Nice pix, I saw ya there! ;) http://diarrheaisland.blogspot.com/2009/08/blitzen-recapper.html
