I’m almost afraid to call the Vivian Girls “chicks” for fear of getting a beating, but these three girls from Brooklyn are definitely some “bad ass chicks”. Glammed up and tatted out, Vivian Girls Cassie Ramone, Kickball Katy, and Ali Koehler also happen to know a thing or two about crafting incredibly catchy pop-punk tunes. At a time when a lot of bands seem to be trying the lo-fi approach, the Vivian Girls have been taking the genre and smashing it on it’s head for quite some time now. These are songs that would sound just as good in an underground punk club as they would in a sun-bleached surf bar. Their latest album; Everything Goes Wrong is generating a lot of good buzz online and is set to be released on September 9th. Gone are the poppier tunes of their past, now laser-focused on their fabulous punk sound. You might call the Vivian Girls a lo-fi equivalent of Social Distortion, we call them fantastic. We couldn’t be happier to have them in the Music Lounge.
In addition to Bumbershoot, the band is on tour thru most of the year. Their Myspace Page is loaded with great songs to sample and you can find out more about the girls on their website. We’re hoping to hear some of the brand new material played for the very first time. The band will be playing later on the Broad Street Stage (6:00 PM).
