Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Today’s featured selection, chosen by Morning Show host John Richards, is “Part of Me” by Electric Tickle Machine from their 2009 self-released album, Blew it Again.
If we were playing “Sex Toy or Band Name,” we might have you fooled on this one. Fortunately, it’s another great band from New York. Electric Tickle Machine is Tom Olivier, Ryan Renn, Adam Kautz, and Clark Phillips. Their music is a fun mix of classic “psychedelic-tinged” rock and happy garage pop with lots of clapping. Despite the ridiculous name, they take their craft seriously, just don’t be surprised if you find loads of graffiti and maybe even random nude audience members dancing on-stage at their shows. They’ve grown a rabid following in New York and are one of the hottest new acts of the year you’ve probably never heard of. “Part of Me” is one one of the happiest damn songs you’ll hear from their newly released album that is turning some heads. The last time we saw ETM at KEXP, they didn’t even have a title for their new album, Blew it Again. Look at them now!
Electric Tickle Machine are currently touring and are scheduled to play The Comet in Seattle on November 8th. You can find out more on their MySpace page, follow them on twitter at @letrictickles, or on their crazy website. You can also check out photos from their visit with John in the Morning, broadcast live on KEXP from The Cutting Room Studios NYC. In fact, here they are performing “Part of Me” and “Bones” from that same session:
