Raise your voice and VOTE today for your most beloved bands and favorite tunes! During the Fall Membership Drive, KEXP will be counting down a different music theme each day based on what you consider to be the greatest music ever made. We want to know what YOU consider the best debut album in the universe. Is it the biting Pretty Hate Machine (1989) from the industrial gods Nine Inch Nails? Or Here Comes the Warm Jets (1973) from glam rocker turned ambient genius Brian Eno? What about Peace, Love, Death Metal (2004) from the sexy boys of Eagles of Death Metal? Or the dramatically beautiful Funeral (2004) from Arcade Fire?
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)

Is this where we point out Funeral was NOT Arcade Fire’s debut album?
Are you referring to their EP? Depends on how technical you want to be. A lot of bands put out EPs before their debut LPs.
At 7 songs I consider the self-titled EP to be their debut.
It’s a matter of semantics, I guess: EP or LP. We didn’t specify what “debut” meant, but I know a lot of people are considering it to be the “debut LP”, which “Funeral” was. Also, I’d add that the EP didn’t see an actual release until after “Funeral” came out and was previously available only at their shows. Still, I wouldn’t criticize either way, personally. And you have to opportunity to write in your own vote anyway. Cheers!
