It wasn’t the best weekend for Seattle sports. I know this because Facebook posts were rife with excitement each morning, and by evening sports fans were reporting on how they planned to drown their sorrows.
Lucky for us, the Seattle music community had a phenomenal weekend. Local artists showed their stuff all around Ballard on Saturday at Reverb where thousands of music lovers ventured out to get the best spots in the clubs, Visqueen was at the Crocodile, the Whore Moans played the Comet, tons of other clubs hosted their own shows, and KEXP kicked of the Fall Membership Drive‘s Countdown Week, where we are “counting down the greatest music ever made.” Every day of the drive is a different countdown theme, and Saturday was The Best PNW Bands Ever.
Unfortunately, I’m participating in this prime Seattle music weekend electronically and feverishly. Crud.
The KEXP Crud.
Yesterday, I needed a nap after the Tad, Melvins and Gossip set and I didn’t even tapped my toes, let alone bang my head.
But still, I feel the awesome vibe of the folks in the extended music community from under the blankets here in Ballard. As I write this, I’m listening #8 on The Best Cover Songs of All Time countdown, Cowboy Junkies doing Sweet Jane, one of my Facebook friends just told us about the nine bands he enjoyed last night (and four others he couldn’t get to), a few other FB friends are gearing up to see Bob Dylan, and I’m emailing the DJs on the air about some great comments from listeners.
Plus, I’ve watched $75,667 in gifts from 325 donors who live in the Puget Sound and all across the country fill the “tally spreadsheet” over the last several days. How could I NOT feel connected to everything going on in the KEXP community? You all say it loud and proud, and we hear you loud and clear!
All in all, a wonderful music weekend, even when I’ve experienced through my own personal flu smackdown. Thanks for making it a winning weekend for KEXP and the local music community.
