Despite the big top excitement of Tom Waits‘ 2-disc set of live recordings out this week, culled from his 2008 Glitter and Doom tour, the new release circus is mostly closed for the year. A few worthwhile releases pop up here and there, like the latest from the prolific Bill Baird and his group {{{Sunset}}}, and The Slew, a project by Kid Koala and Dynomite D, originally written as a film soundtrack but now is a rock guitar-meets-turntable epic of its own is currently be toured with ex-Wolfmother members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett (and they’re in Seattle tonight!). Also, Seattle band Pufferfish have just released their second album, Swell, which just so happens to be featured as today’s Song of the Day podcast!
Otherwise, it’s more gift-friendly fare with box sets aplenty, and they don’t come much bigger than the new 70-disc collection containing 52 Miles Davis albums recorded from 1949-1985 and a bonus DVD. What does something like that cost? $1,000? No, much more affordable, actually, so get ready to pick up remastered Beatles CD’s, Buddy Holly comps, new Neil Young vinyl pressings, Britney Spears singles sets (?), and a whole lot more, which you can find on Largehearted Boy’s list.
