Bay Area buzz band Girls are sure to top many critics’ Top Ten of 2009 lists, at least if the massive amounts of excellent review is an indication) (they broke the 9.0 barrier on Pitchfork). Not only that, there’s quite a story behind vocalist Christopher Owens, you can read about that elsewhere, and well... everyone loves a good story. Beyond the hype, though, Girls are just really damn good at creating endearingly lo-fi, sun-kissed California melodies that appeal just as much to fans of Animal Collective as to less experimental power pop fare.
