Out This Week 12/1

Tristeza

You know it’s a slow week for new releases when there aren’t even any box sets to promote... and it’s the week after Black Friday! However, that’s no reason to skip out of shopping this week because there are a few worthwhile new releases hitting the shelves, most notably the first new album in three years by instrumental band Tristeza, who helped define the San Diego post-rock sound. Tristeza will be showcasing their new songs live on KEXP this Friday at noon! Also, the world-famous genre- and nationality-blending Manu Chao lets loose a live album/DVD combo called Baionarena, which collects 33 tracks from a 2008 concert in France. Beyond that, you’ll find a retrospective of ’80s rapper Biz Markie; a collection of EPs from a remixer/producer known as Pocket, featuring contributions by Dave Allen (Gang of Four), Danny Seim (Menomena), and Steve Kilbey (The Church); plus a new release from Portland band The Dimes, whose press release describes the album as “a musical Cliffs Notes for an early American History class.” Well, it is finals time, right? Be sure to study Largehearted Boy’s list before you head down to your local record shop today.
