The Three Imaginary Girls are rockin’ harder than Dick Clark for New Year’s

Japanther!

Japanther!

As Old Man 2009 shuffles off into the sunset and Baby 2010 toddles in, we here at Three Imaginary Girls are making new resolutions and maybe breaking a few of last year’s before the clock chimes midnight. Since most of us never actually have any success sticking to our proverbial guns for any serious resolution, this year, instead of promising to write to family members more, or losing weight, or quitting smoking, how about making them about something frivolous, like concert going? Who knows? You might actually even keep one!

Imaginary Mimi’s 2010 Resolutions:

1) I will see more local shows — We have no excuse not to, Seattle. The shows are always cheap, our bands need the love, and don’t you want the bragging rights of saying you saw the next Nirvana in a dive bar (with an audience of you, the merch guy, and a bartender) when you see them on MTV?

2) I will dance at shows without shame — Don’t be too cool to enjoy yourself at a show. Remember Kevin Bacon in Footloose? Look how happy it made him! Ignore the scoffers and naysayers and shake what your mama /papa/legal guardian gave you! It’s a sign of appreciation to the nice people you paid good money to see. When they’re happy, they come back, and when they come back you get to rock more. Circle of life…

3) I will not be afraid to talk to the band — Just like 7th grade, if you like ‘em, say so! Who doesn’t like being told how awesome they are? Gentle reminder, UNLIKE 7th grade, an appropriate approach does not involve pushing someone into a bathroom of the other gender, standing slack jawed and not saying anything and then vomiting/crying/running away, or telling your friend to tell them you like them. It doesn’t have to be elaborate — “Hey, dude, great show!” will suffice. Also, wait until they have passed to go hyperventilate in the bathroom and sing “Tenderoni” by Bobby Brown if necessary — things just get awkward if you don’t…

4) I will actually try to listen / get to the venue on time for the opening act — They actually aren’t just standing up there for us to have noise to drink beer and scream over, turns out. There have been many times they’re actually better than the headliner! No one wants to be the parsley and orange slice on the Denny’s Grand Slam of Life. Show a little love or at least a little respect (Just a little bit, just a little biii… sorry)

So, beloved readers, you may find yourself, in addition to living a shotgun shack asking yourself “What is this whackjob prattling on about? Just give us your recommendations for the week and be done with it!” To you I say “Fine!” See the following for potential soundtracks to your inevitable hangovers:

12/29/09: Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School Of Medicine, Neumo’s

12/30/09: Thee Emergency/Gravelroad, Tractor

12/31/09: Cake/Throw Me The Statue/Locust/King City, Moore Theatre

1/1/10: Japanther/Champagne Champagne/They Live/Hair Envelope, Comet

Happy New Year! Be kind to your livers… and each other… See you in 2010!
