Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. Each and every Friday we offer songs by local artists. Today’s selection, featured on the Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole, is “The Daredevil Way” by Terri Tarantula from her first solo album available from Skok Records.

Terri Tarantula – The Daredevil Way (MP3)

Terri Tarantula is the new solo project for veteran Seattle musician Terri Moeller who is best known as one-half of song-writing duo-Transmissionary Six as well as the drummer for The Walkabouts. Fans of Moeller’s work with T6 won’t be disappointed with her new venture. Several songs on the album feature Transmissionary Six guitarist Paul Austin along with a cast of Seattle musical characters including Dave Einmo (Head Like a Kite), Barbara Trentalage (Trentalage), Matt Brown (who also helped record and mix the album), and Anna-Lynne Williams (the vocalist for Trespassers Williams). Animals At Night’s Graig Markel also pitched in with some recording and mixing on the album. “The Daredevil Way” is laced with her trademark balance of melancholy and honesty like many of the songs on the album, but is ultimately a song with optimism about finding the strength to make it through the day.

You can find out more about Terri Tarantula by reading Chris Estey’s recent interview here.

And be sure to catch Terri tonight (2/5) at The Sunset for her CD release party along with Trespassers Williams. Look for fellow Transmissionary Six and Walkabouts bandmates to join her on stage. Please note that this is an early show: 7pm-9pm! More dates and info on their MySpace page.

This just in: A brand new homemade video for the AAN Remix of “The Daredevil Way”! Enjoy:

Two days ago I received a bought CD and it instantly reminded me of legendary Mazzy Star albums. Taking it easy, nice soundtrack for the bumpy road of life. I hope she comes to play in Slovenia soon.
