Listen up, all you dames and wise guys: SIFF Cinema and is giving us all a treat with their 4th Annual Noir City: Lust & Larceny program. Six nights of double-feature thrillers from the 40s & 50s, packed full of wise-cracking gangsters and babes with never-ending gams who just might double-cross ya.
The entire lineup looks fantastic, but make sure you don’t miss the original 1946 The Postman Always Rings Twice starring a smokin’ (literally AND figuratively) Lana Turner and John Garfield. It’s 100x hotter than the 1981 Jessica Lange/Jack Nicholson version, trust me.
Noir City starts this Friday, 2/19 at 7:30 with a double feature of Pitfall and Larceny, and ends next Thursday, 2/25 with Slattery’s Hurricane (mmm... Veronica Lake) and Pick up on South Street.
It’s just $10 per night for 2 films ($8 for SIFF Members), or only $50 for ALL 14 ($35 for SIFF Members). As an extra-special bonus for those who are crazy about noir, SIFF also set up a (Free!) Intimate Fireside Chat with film noir expert/author/critic Eddie Muller at the Sorrento Hotel’s Fireside Room at 3:30pm on Sunday, 2/21. You can buy tickets online here.
So get to buyin’ some now, or I’m gonna have to rough you up a bit.
Blowing you kisses with dreams in them,
Amie Simon
