One of the most surprising performances of the excellent lineup at Gibson Showroom in Austin during KEXP’s broadcast during SXSW came from the Melbourne-based four-piece The Crayon Fields. Already a favorite among KEXP DJs, the band performed a lush, swooning-inducing, summery set that stunned those in attendance. Singer Geoff O’Connor’s wistful vocals and guitarist Chris Hung’s deft fingerpicking hovering over the entrancing backbeat rhythm from Brett Hudson on bass and Neil Erenstrom on drums, transported the audience to another time and place, one filled with bright airy 60′s styled pop and beachy harmonies contributed by each member of the band.
