- No matter your stance on the lofty status occupied by Arcade Fire and their minuscule canon, you can’t deny that their hooks are into plenty of cool projects. Case in point: after providing the triumphant theme for Spike Jonze‘s Where the Wild Things Are, the band could be in line to become Jonze’s subjects in front of the camera. The two entities are collaborating on a short film -- whether it has anything to do with Arcade Fire’s upcoming album is anyone’s guess.

- Speaking of RSD, Blur will be releasing a new single -- their first since 2003 -- for the annual occasion celebrating independent music stores. The release is part of Parlophone‘s RSD festivities that will also house 7-inch releases from Hot Chip, Babyshambles, and a little known Liverpool band known as The Beatles.
- Among the upcoming releases many KEXP listeners are anticipating is the latest from Wolf Parade, Expo 86 (Sub Pop), whose sound is reported to be a bit peppier than their previous At Mount Zoomer. Recently in Toronto, the band confirmed those reports when they played “Fast Ballad” from the forthcoming album live:
- Post-rock aficionados the world over woke up to grand news this week: the reformation of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. A decade has passed since the group went on hiatus but now word comes of that GYBE will be curating and performing during All Tomorrow’s Parties December 3-5 festival, Nightmare Before Christmas.
- It’s time to wear your illegal smile as John Prine will be the focus of Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows, an album of Prine’s finest being covered by My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst, Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), and Old Crow Medicine Show among others. The album hits stores June 22nd.
- Seattle songwriter Damien Jurado, whose song “Arkansas” we featured this past Friday as a Song of the Day podcast, will not only be touring with the raucous collective Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground but will be backed by them on tour. Our friends at Seattle music blog Sound on the Sound broke the news and have the full scoop!
