A brain hemorrhage caused by a water skiing accident nearly did her in, but actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg managed to pull through and channel the experiences from her recovery through her 2009 release, IRM, which gets its name from the French abbreviation for MRI (“imagerie par resonance magnetique”). While the critically acclaimed, Beck-produced album (he wrote the music as well) is a genre-hopping gathering of mostly energetic pop songs, Gainsbourg stripped it down for her enchanting in-studio performance at KEXP:
