Thursday News Eruption

As if you haven’t heard, there have been some hefty developments in Summer festival line ups. Some of these announcements have people pulling out their hair from excitement.

BUMBERSHOOT (SEPT 4 - 6)

  • Bumbershoot boasts headliner, legend, sex idol of our grandmothers Mr. Bob Dylan for the Saturday show. Also headlining September 4th is Neko Case and The Decemeberists.
  • Sunday the festival goes the alternative rock route with Weezer, Hole, and Rise Against.
  • R&B seems to be the theme for Monday with Mary J. Blige and J.Cole headlining, as well as a yet to be announced special guest.
  • Other notable acts include David Bazan, Ozomatli, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, LMFAO, Billy Bragg, Jenny Lewis & Jonathan Rice, and oh so much more. For a full line up check out the Bumbershoot Web site.

CAPITOL HILL BLOCK PARTY (JULY 23 - 25)

  • The big news here is more big names. MGMT, The Dead Weather, and Atmosphere will all be showing up throughout the festival.
  • Other notable acts include Yeasayer, Blitzen Trapper, Head Like A Kite, !!!, Blonde Redhead, Blue Scholars, and more.
  • The festival also added a THIRD day. This is a first for Block Party.
  • For a full line up check out the Block Party Web site.

MUSICFESTNW (SEPTEMBER 9 - 12)

  • Portland is making their stand in the music festival scene as well. This year’s MFNW follows suit with the other two festivals with their big names. The Decemberists and The National will both be there along with Panda Bear and Okkervil River.
  • Other acts scheduled to performer include The Tallest Man On Earth, Rocky Votolato, Phantogram, Menomena, Japandroids, The Thermals and a great team of others.
  • To see the whole line up head on over to the MFNW Web site.

Well now that we’ve got those pesky festivals out of the way, on to other news.

  • M.I.A. released the cover for her new album Maya. Maybe we should expect more Youtube influence in her music? I’m still crossing my fingers for the next great M.I.A. and Tay Zonday collaboration.
  • The Morning Benders are currently streaming a new song titled “Go Grab A Stranger.” They are also offering a free download of a remix of their song “Cold War.”
  • Indie pre-teens, you can stop holding your breath. The Twilight Series: Eclipse Soundtrack is now streaming on the official soundtrack Web site. Tracks for Metric, The Bravery, Fanfarlo, Vampire Weekend, and The Black Keys all make it on this soundtrack along with some other notable names. Will this madness ever end?
  • Broken Bells have released a new music video for their song “The Ghost Inside,” and it stars Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks as an android space pilot. Nothing says awesome like flying around in space.

  • The Cool Kids just released a new mixtape titled Tacklebox. If guys this cool like fishing, then it must be super rad.
