Thursday News Meltdown

  • Interpol has announced that they will be returning to indie label Matador for their next album due out September 14. This will be the first album since bassist Carlos D has left the band and will be replaced with David Pajo from Slint. The band also announced that Brandon Curtis from Secret Machines will join the band on their remaining tour dates.

  • The Walkmen have also made it known that their next album will come out September 14. This album will be a follow up to 2008’s You & Me.
  • Eels have a new track leaked out from their forthcoming album Tomorrow Morning. The new song is titled “Looking Up.” This 50s ragtime vibe is an interesting step for Eels. Think things are “looking up” for this album? Let us know your thoughts!
  • Jay-Z collaborates on Dr.Dre’s upcoming album Detox with a recently leaked song titled Under Pressure. The title seems appropriate. This is hip-hop’s answer to Queen and David Bowie’s 80s collaboration.
  • As part of the on going A.V. Club covers project, The Antlers take on the Pink Floyd anthem Wish You Were Here. Past covers include Ben Folds covering Elliott Smith, Ted Leo and the Pharmacist covering Tears For Fears, and more.

  • According to British publication The List, Lollapalooza will be spending $250,000 for Lady Gaga’s stage at the event. That’s $100,000 for the stage, and $150,000 for the production itself. Madness, I tell you. It seems festival director Perry Farrel has gone absolutely gaga.
  • Music festival PDX POP NOW! has announced the lineup for their musical experience happening July 30 through August 1. Acts include Blue Horn, Hosannas, Joggers and more. Check out the full list.
