Thursday News Shakedown

  • Interpol just released the music video for their new song “Lights.” It is strange, odd, and offbeat. Could we expect anything less from Interpol?

  • Eels frontman Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, was pulled aside by police in London’s Hyde Park as he was relaxing during a recent press tour. He was apparently singled out and questioned because he looked suspiciously like a wanted terrorist. After being let go, he reportedly claimed, “Not every guy with short hair and a long beard is a terrorist. Some of us just want to rock.”
  • Dead Confederate are giving away their latest single, “Giving It All Away.” How appropriate. The single is available on their website after giving your email address. The song will be featured on their album “Sugar” coming out August 24.

  • Ryan Adams and Weezer are collaborating on a new track, says Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. Cuomo stated that Adams will also play lead guitar on the track.
  • Passion Pit have recorded a cover of Smashing Pumpkin’s song “Tonight, Tonight” for the Levi’s Pioneer Sessions. The cover is much more shimmery and danceable than the original, but could we really expect less from Passion Pit? The band also mashed up Snoop Dogg with Katy Perry’s “California Girls.” Check it out.
  • Robin Pecknold will rejoin Joanna Newsom for a West Coast tour. The two will be at the Moore Theatre on August 4.
  • Speaking of tours, Deerhoof starts their next tour on Friday. The group will stop by Washington twice. The first time at the Capitol Theatre in Olympia on the 4th of July and then at The Vera Project here in Seattle on July 5.
  • Bjork and The Dirty Projectors are releasing a collaborative work titled “Mount Witteberg Orca.” The album will be available for digital download on June 30 and proceeds will go to the National Geographic Society. The album can be purchased here.
