The third album by Montreal band Wolf Parade tops the list of new releases this week. Freshly infused with live energy and more collaborative songwriting, EXPO 86 is the sound of a band coming into its own. Texas songwriter Alejandro Escovedo returns, and this time with his tenth solo album, a big sounding collection of originals, back by The Sensitive Boys and produced by Tony Visconti (Bowie, T.Rex, Morrissey). Former Swervedriver Adam Franklin also continues his solo career with the third album with backing band, Bolts of Melody. And glam/disco/pop rockers Scissor Sisters finally follow up their 2006 album, Ta-Dah!, with Night Work, a much needed hedonistic bash as the antidote to a dreary work week. For more pleasure, try Electric Tickle Machine, a band featured last year on the Morning Show, and now with their debut LP officially out. Also out officially: To Trunks and Travels, another debut by Seattle band Hey Marseilles, who you’ve read about frequently on the blog of late and whose songs you’ve been hearing regularly on KEXP.
