Each week on my Saturday afternoon radio show I pick a favorite artist and play three songs in a row from them. This week it’s different. The hottest band around right now (in my humble opinion) is !!! (pronounced “chick chick chick” and spelled for search engines “chk chk chk”). And they are playing LIVE on the show this week at the Capitol Hill Block Party! KEXP will broadcast live from the hood on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So come and visit us in The Bean Room (next to Cafe Vita) 1019 E.Pike Street. !!! also play the Mainstage on Saturday night, so their 4PM KEXP set will give you an intimate look at this kinetic band. The new album is just out and one of the top selling albums on ITunes right now. The new vid for the song AM/FM was released a few days ago.
New York based band !!! got its start playing house parties in the city, with a mix of post-punk and electronica. The eight members of !!! are known for various side projects (most notably, vocalist Nic Offer, guitarist Tyler Pope and bassist Justin van der Volgen were known as Out Hud). In 2000 !!! put out their debut, but their big break came in 2003 when a 9-minute single called “Me and Guiliani Down by the School Yard (A True Story) hit dance floors around the globe.
In 2004 they rocked political with Louden Up Now“, got more party-oriented with the 2007 record, Myth Takes, and now are crossing over into pop culture with the brand new record “Strange Weather, Isn’t It”, a title that seems to echo Seattle’s current half-summer weather. The best reason to see !!! is that their live show has dance amperage that will explode your mind. If you have any doubts check out the video for “Heart of Hearts”:
!!! play the Capitol Hill Block Party Mainstage at 7:30pm on Saturday, July 24th and will be live on KEXP at 4pm on Saturday as part of our live broadcast from the Block Party!
